I paint many portraits as a memorial of a favorite pet that has passed away. Cherokee, an Akita, was commissioned as a gift for his owner.

Akita's are dignified, aloof animals, powerfully built and very confident. They are most widely used in police work or as watchdogs. They are brave, alert, mild-tempered and good natured, devoted to their human family.
